Nick Bantock
Nick Bantock was born in England and grew up in the suburbs of North East London. He attended Maidstone Art Collage, concentrating on his painting, and began illustrating book covers, including those for authors Philip Roth and John Updike. In 1988 he moved with his family to British Columbia, Canada, and became involved in Pop-Up Books with Intervisual. Shortly thereafter he decided to write and illustrate his own books, and published his first book in 1990. In 1991 he began work on the Griffin and Sabine Trilogy. The three books have now sold over 3 million copies world wide. Between them, the three the books were on NYT best seller list for over 100 weeks. All 3 books in the trilogy reached #1 on Canadian best seller lists, and have been published in 13 languages. Bantock has since published 25 books, many of which have appeared on US and Canadian best seller lists, including The Forgetting Room (Harper Collins, 1997), The Venetian’s Wife (Chronicle, 1996), the visual autobiography The Artful Dodger (Chronicle, 2000), The Gryphon (Chronicle, 2001) and Urgent 2nd Class (Chronicle, 2004). His next work, The Windflower, is due to be published in 2006, along with becoming a movie with Edoardo Ponti. Website: www.nickbantock.com.
The Windflower (An Alchemical Garden)
Wednesday, February 8 at 5:30 pm in the Rainier Room
Join us for a truly unique presentation, combining a bit of reading book excerpts, compelling visuals of art and a discussion of anything and everything that might throw light on the creative process. Whether constructing a collage, telling a story or making a garden, there is inevitably a connection between the craft we've learned and a trust in nature. Only when a balance can be struck between intuition and logic can our craft become an art. A book signing will immediately follow this presentation.
